Long after midnight, on a night like this... [Oct. 22nd, 2008|06:25 pm]
New job's going well I think.. I'm really enjoying it anyway! I'm more than sure I made the right decision. I get on well with everyone at the company, and the work is pretty varied and interesting. The existing design engineer, who I share the lab with, is dead easy to get on with, and pretty easy going. The difficulty and pace of work is just nice at the moment too =) While I'd consider my analogue skills to be fairly weak, I've answered any "pop-quiz, hotshot!" style questions correctly. I started out upgrading some ASM and C software so we can use a cheaper PIC on some products, and I've managed to get that pretty much sorted in the first couple of weeks which is good.

Then there's the flat.. I'm living in a small studio above a funeral directors and overlooking the abbey.. talk about "more goth than thou" =P It's pretty damn cheap, and it takes me 7 minutes to walk to work so I dont need to fork out for a car just yet (no parking where I am anyway), so I should be fine for money for a while. The flat itself is ideal.. small but I dont need much more space really. Cant really fit a double bed in, but I managed with a single in Sheffield ok even when Lucy unofficially lived there for 12 months =P Then there's the fact that I'm opposite an indian restaurant/takeaway.. and there are two more within 30 seconds walk.. two chinese takeaways within a minutes walk, and a proper chippy which is rare for the south!

My only gripe is the drastic change in social life during the week.. I dont know anyone round here and it's really quiet everywhere. Quite a few pubs but I dont really wanna go in on my own and I've seen very few young people round here. Everyone at work is all grown up with a family, and most of them live elsewhere and commute in. While I'm more than happy on my own most of the time, I occasionally feel a little lonely in the evenings. I miss Sheffield.. having loads of stuff going on all the time was nice. While I'm technically only a few miles from central London, it's just inconvenient enough to make weeknights out there for a drink not really feasible. I know it could be a lot worse though, and I'd MUCH rather have quiet and lonely than rough and scary!

On the plus side I should be able to see Lucy almost every weekend now.. she's been ill for the past couple of weekends so I just went through to Crawley and we stayed in. Maybe I'd feel better if I just got out once. Luckily she's feeling a bit better now and we have tickets to London After Midnight on Saturday so maybe that'd do the trick! Then we're going up to Scarborough the weekend after for her birthday. Not sure if we'll be out in Whitby though since the nights out look pretty shitty at the moment what with the Met now putting on even worse looking bands than the Spa.. hmm.. maybe we'll try the Resolution night on the Saturday...

Seven months since my last update.. must be a record? Looking back, it's been a busy time. My exam problems returned with a vengeance after Christmas, and I honestly thought it was all over. Two exams consisted of me barely being able to remember my own name, and I couldn't even put pen to paper. No chance of resits and I needed to pass them to pass my degree. It finally prompted me to swallow my pride and get some proper help though. I immediately went to my supervisor and got advice, and luckily it wasn't quite game over.. I've had to do all sorts over the past few months to try and help me cope with the current set of exams, but so far I'm glad to say it seems to have paid off. Three exams down and two to go. Admittedly yesterdays went a little poorly - pretty nasty paper on a module I really didn't like one bit, but I answered a good proportion of it so there's hope. My fate goes before a committee after these exam results, and I have no idea what to expect. I just want to pass. I know its not really possible for me to get a 2:1 or anything.. but I just don't want to fail.

I feel I did pretty well on my final year project and thesis though, which does count towards a decent proportion of this year's marks. I'd have been more than happy to work on that 9-5, 5 days a week.. which tells me I need a proper job. It may have been a better option for me to take a different route than Uni, but even with hindsight I wouldn't change what I did. Apart from the exam fiascos its been the best 4 years of my life. I wouldn't exchange it for the anything. I love this city.. I've met some fantastic people.. I've changed for the better in many ways.. and on the whole I'm happy. I just need a job.

So that brings me to the immediate future.. next exam is on Saturday afternoon, and my final exam is on Tuesday morning. Then that's it, it's (hopefully) all over. Lucy's coming up next weekend and we're hoping to cram in as much as possible into what may be our last weekend in Sheffield.. Saturday night proving to be a tricky one to plan, but hopefully it'll involve both the BBQ and Corp so as to catch up with pretty much everyone for maybe the last time. I'll be about for the following week.. before moving out and back to Blackpool on Saturday 21st.

The job hunting wont start there though.. have to wait for my results, but I'm off with Lucy and her parents to Madeira for two weeks on 30th June. That still seems like ages off but it really isn't, and I haven't really prepared.. need some new clothes and stuff.. my wardrobe full of black shirts, blue jeans and various gothy attire probably wont suit. I'm still in exam mode at the moment though.. I'll worry about all that next week. After that I hope to move down with Lucy.. pending me getting a job.

So, here's to my last two weeks in Sheffield! I'll hopefully remember update this again before I go! =P

F**king S**tting A**ing T**tting C**ting B**TARD!!!!! [Nov. 19th, 2007|01:20 am]
Just got back from a looong train journey (damn Sunday night services).. As most of you know, Hocico couldnt get into the UK. I'm pretty gutted, but for some reason I kinda expected something to go wrong. It never did seem right somehow.. kinda too good to be true! Always had this gut feeling it'd be cancelled..

So I wasnt really that surprised when we were handed this upon arriving on Saturday:

After what can only be described as a small nuke went off in my head, and we stormed off in anger mumbling about getting a complete refund, we decided to goto Starbucks and wait for the rest of the bands to arrive. We were told 8pm, so we headed in at about 7:45 to find the first band, Din A Tod, on stage already. The venue was pretty decent, and about half full, but the atmosphere was like that of a funeral. Everyone was just stood about looking gloomy (well, to the outside I expect most gothy and industrialy type gigs are like that anyway =P ) The band played 3 songs, and left then the stage. They were a male and female duo and he did two songs and she did one.. hers was pretty crap, and his two were alright but a bit boring. Sounded a bit like the Mission.. wouldnt rush out to see them again, but wouldnt avoid if they supported someone good.

As they left the stage, techs came on as usual, acompanied by an annoying woman who looked completely off her face.. after a few minutes when the techs left and another guy came out, it became apparent that they were actually the next band, Ashbury Heights. She started "singing", and we moved quickly for the exit.. it was like nails down a bloody blackboard! I've heard them before and while they're not really my thing, they're nowhere near as bad as they were live! They were also just annoying to look at and were either drugged up or completely pissed, and it was just a complete failure in every respect. They both stood with microphones and left the synth playing the backing track all on its own! Luckily they too played only three songs, and left. In future I'll avoid these like the plague!

After another short interlude, an angry man in a hat and his electronic drummer/synth guy came on stage. These were Proceed. They looked quite pissed off, and shouted something along the lines of "Fuck the UK!! And fuck UK immigration!" (it may have been another band that said this, but I'm pretty sure it was these). This kinda pissed me off a lot! Its not our fault we have decent fucking border control! Not every country is like Mexico! While I was really REALLY pissed off at the situation, I was pissed off at the Out Of Line people since it was surely their goddam fault for not ours! Anyway, the band started and were actually alright. They had a decent stage presence, and the songs were ok.. but I dont think I'd have enjoyed a very long set of it.. there wasnt much variation! Again though, their set was only three tracks long, so it wasnt much of a concern and it was all over very quickly.

Then Spetsnaz came on. The synthy drummer guy looked a bit weird.. and the singer stormed on stage and looked like a complete psycho! They were a complete mismatch and had a really bizzare stage presence. I've heard a fair few Spetsnaz songs, and they seemed alright.. but live it was all just a bit lacking. People started chanting "HOCICO!! HOCICO!!" and the singer told em to "Shut up!". It all felt a but awkward, and we got bored of it very quickly and ended up leaving early. The dodgy atmosphere predictably hadn't improved, and there was just nothing to stick around for.

Needless to say, if these bands had have been playing Corp without Hocico like they did in London, I wouldnt have been going! I'd be urging everyone not to go too.. they weren't that good, and the sets were stupidly short anyway. Maybe it'd have been different if the bands had arrived sooner and had longer sets? The whole depressing atmosphere didn't help, but I honestly feel they wouldnt have been that impressive if the night had've gone to plan.

So yeah, news of a gig in at least London in March is good news.. and we have free entry to it so thats alright. Just a shame that Saturday night was such a depressing waste of time!

Three Degrees from Kevin Bacon!! [Aug. 23rd, 2007|11:17 pm]
A guy just messaged me on MSN to tell me that a piece of software I wrote a few years ago to mimic the longhorn sidebar (like the vista sidebar) was used and is frequently visible on the computers in the new film Perfect Stranger:

Why they used it I dont know, but there's absolutely no doubt that its my app! So yeah, that means I'm now just 3 degrees from Kevin Bacon..

1. I wrote a fairly popular desktop sidebar program that Halle Berry uses in Perfect Stranger
2. Halle Berry was in Executive Decision with Oliver Platt
3. Oliver Platt was in Flatliners with Kevin Bacon

Beat THAT!! =P

In other news, I havent updated this again.. loads has happened in the past few months. Lucy got a job in Crawley and moved down there. Its been a bit strange going from being together every day to having weeks apart, but I think we'll be fine. Its a nice place, and handy for London and Brighton, so I expect I'll be down there as much as possible!

Been back and forth from Blackpool, Sheffield and Crawley over the past few weeks what with exams and working. Managed to catch Front Line Assembly in July.. bloody awesome gig and probably one of my favorite gigs ever. Caught Skinny Puppy at the London Astoria last week. They were alright, but I didnt enjoy the gig as much as last time I saw them. The setlist was a bit weaker (although they did play a few gems), and the venue was so busy and warm.. Ohgr was his usual weird self though.. performing from behind a blood stained white sheet with his projected shadow for half the set. He'd occasionally stick his arm out the side covered in what looked like a plaster cast, and holding some sort of metal pipe down which he puffed smoke.. what the hell that was all about I dont know! Then later on after finally showing himself, he wore a modified welding mask with big mirror eyes and an pneumatic pipe protruding from the mouth piece.. the guy isnt right in the head!

Also caught Assemblage 23 in slimelight on Saturday. Not a big fan of slimelight, especially for bands, but I got into the gig after finding a half decent spot to stand. They were alright but didnt blow me away or anything.. just pretty standard!

I'm now back in Blackpool grafting for a few weeks before heading back to Sheffield in mid September. Oh the joy!

Grendel Gig [Jun. 25th, 2007|12:29 am]
[Current Location |Sheffield]
[Current Music |NOT Grendel =P]

Well, yeah I'm gonna bitch about Grendel too I think =P

We arrived a little late and missed Uberbyte (I think it was optimistic to hope that events would run smoothly and we'd make it in time!) When we did arrive, we were squashed in the totally overpacked small room which put me in a bit of a mood from the start.. The Judas Coven were playing, and I stayed to watch them for a few minutes. They didn't really impress me any more than Lab4.. just seemed a bit pointless and lacking in, well, anything really =/ A few people seemed to enjoy 'em though so maybe they just weren't to my taste.

We waited in the big room for Modulate to start so as to get some air. Would have been nice for them to open the bar in there, but oh well.. I suppose if you're gonna host a night badly, might as well host it really badly! Surprised they let us into the big room really, even with the piss flooded toilets in the small room! Anyway, Modulate were quite good as far as I could tell. I couldn't see them very well due to being stuck behind that dull inanimate structural post between the bar and the dance floor, but I managed to catch an odd glimpse. The sound wasn't too great from where I was stood, and I couldn't really hear the vocals, which made the No Good cover more of a "lets stick a CD on and mime to it through a megaphone" type affair from my point of view! I haven't heard the cover before, or since, but I am actually interested in hearing it properly since I'm really rather liking the rest of their material =)

The unbearable heat and a lack of oxygen predictably just got worse during the course of the night, but we decided to find a decent spot to watch Grendel as Modulate were finishing and everyone rushed to the bar, rather than escape into the big room again. I think this plan backfired though since when they did make it on stage, I really would have rather watched them from behind that dull inanimate structural post. Pax Phsychosis was the opener.. and it sounded pretty awful. Distorted bass drowned out those violin sounds, and the vocals were poor. He didn't sound harsh.. he didn't sound like he does on CD.. was it even him? Maybe he paid someone to go on tour for him.. I dunno what he looks like.. that would explain a lot though.. like the fact he mimed the samples and got it wrong pretty much every time in every song! Anyway, the sound did improve marginally for Void Malign, but still wasn't too great. Maybe not the bands fault though I'm not sure. Soilbleed was third to my surprise, and it was at that point I just wanted to leave. For the whole song I just wanted to set fire to those things "dancing" on stage. It was embarrassing to watch.. I think having my parents dancing on stage would have been less cringeworthy! I dunno what came after that.. I kinda lost interest. They did grab my attention for Zombie Nation though. Never really been a huge fan of it, and now I'm hoping that god awful performance will put everyone else off it so I don't have to endure it in clubs anymore. It was the lowest point of the night for me, but like a nasty car accident, I just couln't stop watching. Things picked up again slightly after that, but still no harsh vocals, and still no real stage presence. At one point the backing track skipped and everything went off for a second apart from the vocals.. was the whole thing on a backing CD? Was that drummer actually doing anything or was it a fluke that the skip came between beats? I dunno, and quite frankly I don't care.. it was the least worst thing that went wrong!

So yeah.. really disappointing. Maybe if it'd have been in the big room, then I wouldn't have been so pissed off- it'd have been less cramped and hot, those stupid dancers wouldn't have found the stairs onto the stage, the sound may have been better, and yeah it could have been alright-ish.. but if they weren't indeed doing much live, and with the dodgy non-harsh vocals, I think it was maybe doomed to be a disappointment regardless!

Ho hum.. [May. 18th, 2007|11:37 am]
[Current Mood | a little down]
[Current Music |Amduscia - Impulso Biomecanico]

No update for a while.. not a lot's really happened! Tis exam time again, but at the moment I'm feeling alright about them. There's one thats going to be really painful, but the rest all seem fairly OKish.. Still gonna require non stop revision for the next 3 weeks though which is already starting to bug the hell out of me.. probably why I'm updating this to get away from it for a few minutes!

Last night was a big RockSoc night out at Saffron on West Street for a more upmarket version of our weekly curry, since Arne is heading back to Germany soon and one or two other people will be leaving Sheffield. It was a really fun night, even though I spent and ate a little too much =O I just couldnt stop eating, it was all so nice >.< We then headed down to the Nelson for an equally fun night at Stormblast. It was the first time I could actually stay out now lectures and everything have finished.. but its kinda annoying that for the next few weeks the exams will mean I'm housebound again >.<

The night was kinda marred by an incident on Division street when we were heading down to the Nelson though. Not gonna go into details but for some reason a group of arseholes decided they didnt like us, and me especially, and I ended up being dragged down the road by my hair and pinned up against a shop front by my neck by a big fat obnoxious fucker. The police were called and I have contact details for pressing charges if I wish. It was caught on CCTV and the police said that all the doormen are connected by radio to a central office that monitors the cameras, so they wouldnt have been able to get in anywhere (we know they tried Revolution but were knocked back).. so hopefully they spoiled their own night, but I do feel really down about it this morning. Lucy got really quite upset since she returned an absolute load of verbal at them after they dragged me down the street, and she feels its her fault I was taken by the throat, but in a funny way I'm kinda glad that bit happened since it was under the camera and did mean the police got involved.

I'm more upset by some of the verbal I got, which reminded me of my High School days. I tried to just dismiss it at the time, but for some reason its brought back a lot of unpleasant memories. I've had loads of verbal thrown at me on the streets in the past but this was a little more personal somehow, and I think not being dressed up in any way (especially compared to a lot of people arount Divison Street at the time) meant it really wasnt expected!

Anyway, Lucy wanted to head home after that but we decided to head to the Nelson for a bit after all, and I'm glad we did. It'd have been a really unpleasent end to a nice night if we'd have left, but Stormblast was pretty fun and the additional drink helped us forget the unpleasentries!

So back to work I guess.. I really do hate exams!!! >.

F**k That S**t [Mar. 11th, 2007|02:58 pm]
[Current Mood | indifferent]
[Current Music |Imperative Reaction - Something I Left Behind]

After hearing Kloq might be supporting, and after hearing the new album (which I've been playing on repeat all week), I decided to give Combichrist a second chance live. They were pretty boring when I saw them in America, and towards the end of their set it became a bit annoying and embarrassing. They brought nothing new to their material, and Andy barely did anything apart from pace and sing the samples. The only highlights were Blut Royale and Get Your Body Beat which did work live, and the drummers were amazing to watch.

Since then I've listened to them less. Everyone's told me how great they are live. Maybe we caught them on an off night? I had to give them a second chance I suppose. I really like their material on CD and in clubs.. and the new stuff sounded like it really wanted to be performed live as opposed to their older title tracks which were just aimed for the dancefloor.

We arrived just in time for Northbourne.. who were ok, if not a little dull. The Icon of Coil track was nice but apart from that we kinda forgot they were there quite quickly. I give em 5/10.. add more vocals/samples/melody and it could be great. Reaper didn't really blow me away like most people claim they do. While I kinda got into them a bit more than at Infest.. they just didn't really do much for me. I give em 4/10.

Then on came Combichrist, and I was up at the front and really ready for a great show. First thing I noticed was there were considerably fewer guys on stage. As far as I remember there were 3 or 4 synth guys, and I'm sure there were 3 drummers, and they sounded exactly the same as last time pretty much.. hmmm! Anyway, we quickly became irritated by the idiots at the front around us (I really, REALLY cant wait till cigarettes are banned!), and decided to move further back.. seems the whole place was full of cretins though so we just had to put up with it! The band did seem to have a bit more about them this time, and Andy did seem to interact with the crowd much more. The new stuff works live, but I'm sorry, the old stuff just doesn't! Apart from Blut Royale the older stuff was just pointless, and in some cases, embarrassing. The crowd really seemed to love em though, so maybe it was just us.. maybe we don't get it?

We had to leave for This Shit Will Fuck You Up.. it was embarrassing in America but we had to wait for KMFDM. This time we could escape thank God! It was like some bad 2-Unlimited rap. Don't get me wrong.. I like the track. If it comes on in a club I'll probably dance, but watching it live is something I never wish to experience again.

So yeah, they were better, but I'll make sure to avoid them live again. Speaking to people afterwards it was nice to find quite a few people that thought the same too.. people either thought they were absolutely amazing or pretty poor. I'll give em 6/10 for Red, Blut Royale, Electrohead and Get Your Body Beat. 4/10 for the rest.

"Super Syn" was enjoyable, and the music was pretty damn good! We got a bit tired though, so much of the night was spent sitting in the dark seated bit or watching the rather entertaining dancefloor. On the whole it wasnt a bad night.. Syn made up for the disappointing bands in the end! =)

But something that does excite me, and for some reason I'm not supposed to say, even though it does seem to be confirmed now? I know loads of people heard rumours of this band maybe playing Corp, and people probably already know anyway. If not, all I'll say is to check said bands MySpace *cough* and now I hope Solitary Experiments and Modulate also play somewhere more accessible! *cough* ;-)

Regular Updates? =O [Feb. 4th, 2007|07:26 pm]
[Current Mood | contemplative]
[Current Music |Skinny Puppy - Mythmaker]

So Thursday night came and everything caught up with me.. I got too tired to stay at Peroxide for long, and the decks didnt recognise most of my CDs so my set was a mess.

Friday we went into town and planned to head to Dark Matter in the evening, but I suddenly became quite ill while in HMV.. my vision went very odd and I became really disorientated! Not sure what it was but it was quite scary! Lucy helped me into a cafe where cake seemed to help ;-) Still felt quite odd though so we stayed in and got a takeaway instead that night.

Last night my parents came through for the Japanese, and I drank about 1 and a half bottles of red wine.. so needless to say I cant remember much of the night! They seemed to really enjoy it though, and from what I can remember it was! =) I then came back and collapsed on my bed at 9pm =O I woke up bright and alert at 6am this morning, and couldnt get back to sleep!

I managed to spent 6 hours trying to figure out what all the new PC technologies are all about. I'm really out of touch with it all, and its become quite a bit more complex over the past few years! Dual cores, 64bit OS's, PCI-E SLI Cards, SATA drives.. its all a bit confusing! I'm thinking of getting a Dual Core Athlon 64 with a couple of gigs of RAM and an ATI X1950Pro with my birthday money for the up and coming release of Supreme Commander.. a game I've been waiting for for ten years! >.< But should I go for Vista? And if so should I take the 64bit plunge? Gah!

Yay! Exams on my 21st! [Jan. 28th, 2007|10:57 am]
[Current Mood | drained]

Hmm, again I've not updated this thing! Well, to sum up the past few months:

I went to America with Lucy, saw lots of things.. swam with some manatees, watched KMFDM supported by Combichrist.. went on loads of rides.. ate loads of food.. it was all great!

Did the halloween thing at corp.. amazing turn out and a pretty decent night!

Couple of months of just general uni work, saw XPQ-21 who were alright but not great, went to Corp a couple of times, and then it was Christmas. Went to the Christmas Batfink, but missed 3ulogy unfortunately. The music in the main room was a bit odd, alternating between decent and dodgy tracks for most of the night. The industrial room seemed to go through phases of being a bit lame, but on the whole was good. When the decent stuff came it was mostly noise and a bit difficult to dance to though =/ I preferred it when the rooms were switched and you could sit down when the noise came! Still a great night though =D

Went out to Wasabi-Sabi on London Road for Lucy's graduation. We did the teppanyaki, and I can only recommend it! One of the best meals I've ever had both quality of food wise, and just as a sheer experience! Going back next weekend for a late birthday meal with my Lucy and my parents =)

Then headed home for a busy-ish Christmas. Family all came to the house for Christmas Day, and we all went out for a meal on boxing day. It was a real nice Christmas after last year when my grand dad took his final turn for the worst.. and the first Christmas where everyone was together for quite a few years.

Lucy came through to Blackpool for a few days after boxing day, and we did the zoo among other things, which is still surprisingly good for a Blackpool attraction (especially after how it used to be when I was little). We then went through to Scarborough and spent a few days there.. went to a really odd little night club full of weird people, and then spent a day in Whitby.

We came back to Sheffield for a week, before heading down to London for a few days. Stayed in the Comfort Inn near Kings Cross, which was a nice enough little place and bloody cheap too! Spent a day shopping in Camden, went to the Imperial War Museum, went up Tower Bridge, ate in China Town, and just took in the sights again! Really nice couple of days =)

We then returned to Sheffield for my looming exams, which so far haven't been disastrous, but I'm starting to get to a point where I'm beyond stressed. I revise from the moment I get up in a morning to about midnight every day, and I've only had a couple of nights off, which were both last weekend. Its my 21st tomorrow and I have an exam, and I have one on Thursday so the revision continues until then =( No partying until Thursday and my god will I be ready for a night out! Even if we weren't doing Peroxide I think I'd hit Fuzz anyway, its that desperate! =O

Halloween at Corp [Oct. 13th, 2006|10:05 pm]
[Current Mood | excited]

Ok, first things first, we're hiring out Corp on Halloween! (By we I mean the RockSoc =p)

From the website:
RockSoc is pleased to announce that we are going to be hosting Sheffield's one and only Halloween rock night this year in everyone's favourite nightclub, the Corporation. On Tuesday 31st October from 10pm-2am we're taking over Corp for a night of debauchery and demonic antics on All Hallows Eve, with a fancy dress competition and our very own DJs playing the very best in Rock, Metal, Punk and Goth music! Get it into your diaries and keep it clear, this is going to be the biggest party RockSoc has ever hosted!

This event is open to everybody, so no need for a Rocksoc or NUS card to get in. Entry is a bargain at £2, or £1 for Sheffield and Hallam Rocksoc members (Upon presentation of a RockSoc card), and we'll be giving stuff away for the best Halloween costumes. If there's the demand for it, I'll play some industrial stuff, but the music policy is going to be quite relaxed, so expect a bit of everything..

http://rocksoc.union.shef.ac.uk/halloween.php

Right, that's that out of the way! I know its been ages since my last update, and LOADS has happened over the past few months, from our trip to London featuring Ministry, to the mighty Infest, and recently loads of RockSoc related stuff.. but I cant really be bothered to go into detals.. it was all great!

Sunday sees the best thing of all though, as me and Lucy shall be jetting off to Florida for 2 weeks =D. We're staying in a villa outside Orlando. Monday night we'll be in Disney's house of blues watching none other than KMFDM suppored by Combichrist =D So see you all in 2 weeks, and hopefully I'll see some familiar faces at corp on the 31st =P.

Ooh, and god damn that Agonoize gig was goddam brilliant!! =D

While sat in the pub, Lucy realised she hadn't seen the Infest tickets for ages.. Since we couldnt get it off our minds and she only lives round the corner, we decided to pop round and look for them. Two hours later, and after searching through the few things she has in her very small flat, we're almost positive they're gone. =(

Not sure what we're going to do now.. Doubt we'd be able to contact anyone about it, so its either buy some more or let £70+ go down the drain.. great stuff =(

Well I'm back! Journey was pretty good, and we decided to give Batfink a go.. Wasn't sure what to expect, but it ended up being a fantastic night! Music was great (especially in Pod C), and it all seemed really well suited to the venue up there! I think I even preferred it to Aqua! The chocolate fountain was a nice little touch, although I got in quite a mess with it! =P I think the separate room thing was a huge improvement too, and allowed us to avoid the standard fink half hour or so of silly random cheese (which is getting a little tired now I feel). It was nice and cool in there too, especially with it being such a warm night, which is always a pleasant thing!

Been a while since I updated.. I've been in Blackpool for the past few weeks working for my dad again. Its been really warm, and despite my best efforts, I'm starting to go quite brown =/ Lucy's been visiting for the weekends, and we've been out and about in Blackpool. Been up to the Trough of Bowland, around Stanley Park, trammed it up to Cleveleys, and been to see Pirates of the Caribbean 2 (which was alright but a bit too long). Also got a copy of the American extended version of Leon, which I thought was pretty damn good, although I can see why they cut out what they did for the normal version.

Coming back to Sheffield on Saturday for a couple of weeks. Should be at the big Batfink, and then we're off to London on August 2nd for a couple of days to catch the Ministry gig =)

Ahh.. finally finished the RockSoc website =D Still awaiting a bit more content from the rest of the guys, but its all gone live now at rocksoc.union.shef.ac.uk =)

Went to see X-Men too t'other day.. Pretty good film, although I think they crammed too many characters into it maybe.. Pretty strange final scene after the end credits too.. maybe the Wolverine film continues after this one? Or if it does end up being the prequel, then perhaps they'll make yet another film? =)

Tonight we're heading to Corp I think.. Should be nice since we've not had much chance to get out and about much recently!

Interesting weekend really. Friday night I became very ill, following a week of feeling quite peculiar and weak. I feared a return my tonsillitis, but I'm getting better quite quickly =)

Saturday we stayed in and watched TV. Dr Who was great, and Eurovision was even better! Not as many funny acts this year, but Lordi's victory totally made up for that!

And then onto Sunday. Another lazy day, since I was still feeling a bit rough. We both weren't really in the mood for Apop, and we wandered down quite late to try and avoid the support. The whole night ran later than expected unfortunately, so we ended up being there for Seize.. Who didnt manage to impress at all. After the seemingly endless wait for Apop, I just really wasn't in the mood.. felt like just abandoning it and going home. Not the biggest Apop fan really, especially after their recent changes in direction, so I didnt think I'd miss much.

How wrong I was! What a show! Despite looking quite.. well, I dunno.. lame? (kinda reminded me of placebo on stage for some reason.. maybe stefans strange resemblance to molko), they played a great selection of songs, and the new stuff actually kicked ass too! The live drums and guitars on the older tracks really worked well, and they had a good stage presence! Really glad I went down.. great stuff!

Brr.. cant get bloody warm =(

Well this days turning out to be a fine one.. Wake up to find our water's not working.. Managed to have a wash with a bit of hot water from the boiler, but I usually drink loads (I mean, pints) of water unconsciously all the time.. Its only been a couple of hours and I'm feeling arid :'-(

Add to that a £250 bill that came this morning for just under 2 months of gas.. 3 weeks of which our house was empty for easter.. and the fact that there's only 3 of us. The heating's been off, and the bill for the quarter over winter where we abused the gas was £167.. wtf!?

I also recently bought a digi box (dont bloody bother with it, its crap.. despite what peter snow says.. believe me), and now it would seem all the millions of 4 channels will be showing constant coverage of goddam Big Brother.. great! fantastic! I just effectively paid £40 for that shite to take over my TV ten times more than last year :'-(
